Camping the Northwest | Washington Coast
What you need to know
CARAVANNING. That’s what the British call it, but we call it good old American camping! This here is our new trailer. She’s 14 feet long, weighs just about a ton and is our new little bundle of joy. We’re parents! For now, her name is KZ Sportsman 14rk. A bit impersonal and cumbersome. Suggestions welcome; see end of Post for free tee info!
STARCRAFT MEMORIES. We camped a lot as a family where I grew up in New Hampshire. Papoose Pond , Point Sebago and Hermit Island in Maine; and all the international flair Price Edward Island in Canada. All those Canadians wore speedos shamelessly with their pasty white snow-bleached skin. It sounds so grand to say we summered in Prince Edward Island now that it’s 3000 miles away and a lifetime of memories away. What a beautiful place and time. So now we make new memories and we are headed out for our first big trip with our new baby, and of course, Jetson.
NOT A TENT. Right away, we learned that campsites for trailers are a lot harder to come by than tents, no two ways about it. So our options are limited as people book months in advance in the Northwest. And as fantastic as Oregon is to explore, the reservation system for Oregon State Parks is terrible. Terrible! Good thing Washington State is just a jump over a river and their reservation system is fantastically easy to use.
PACIFIC BEACH STATE PARK IN WASHINGTON STATE. I suspect we found a campsite here because it looks super inconvenient to get to from either Seattle or Portland. We found what looks to be a great spot, right on the ocean. Check it out! Site 59B.
ADVICE? A couple things we wouldn’t mind some help with.
- Where do we go with our 14ft wonder on short notice? Portland is home base.
- What should we name our little wonder?
- Where can I get some truck nuts for my hitch?
- What else do we not know?! Water filters, heat, wind, bears, oh my.
How bout this…
We’ll send you a Pacific Wonderland Tee if you give us the winning name of our new rig.
Cheers!
Brian and Michael
