Write about what you know, people tell me, write about what you know. I know nothing about Nike. Well, not nothing.

Living in Portland, you can’t help know someone who either works at Nike, has worked at Nike, or at one time has pondered the thought of “Just Doing It”. Nike is not in Portland, by the way, it’s out there in Beaverton (don’t laugh you out of towners, it’s a real city). Also in greater Portland is Columbia Sportswear, Adidas, Keen Footwear, Icebreaker (US), Lucy, Norm Thompson Outfitters (oh look, it Marco and Tanya on the home page), Danner Boots, Hannah Anderson, Pendleton Woolen Mills, LaCrossse Footwear, Nau Sustainable Apparel and many more I’m sure I forgot.

How do I know all that? I’ve interviewed at all of them at one time or another. Pendleton 3 times. Nike 4.

So what do I know about Nike? People LOVE it. It is their lives. It becomes a way of life for them. The culture, the amenities on campus, the prestige of just saying…”yeah, I work at Nike”. This post is for all my friends who haven’t yet stepped on campus, or did get there, but didn’t make the cut. It’s also for Wendy, Aleta, Carlos, Maitreya, Karen, Josh, Wendy’s husband, and Corey who I know all work there…or worked there. This is how the outsiders see you.
