Oregon is #1 for Christmas Trees
What you need to know
Growers in the Beaver State have held the title since 1979, the year they unseated their counterparts in Michigan. In fact, Oregon grows more than twice as many Christmas trees as the current No. 2 state, North Carolina. “Oregon is the perfect tree-growing climate,” says Mike Bondi, the Clackamas County extension agent for Oregon State University. “Everybody knows about our rain, but we’ve also got mild weather and volcanic soil in the foothills of the Cascades.” That combination yields more than 6.5 million Douglas firs and noble firs for harvest state-wide every year.
